Peace Village 2009
THREE DAYS OF LOVE AND PEACE
Friday, August 7, 6pm – 11pm,
plus a late night dance until the wee hours
Saturday, August 8, 10a – 11pm,
plus a late night concert until the wee hours
Sunday, August 9, 11am – 11pm
At Jackson Wellsprings, Ashland, Oregon
Imagine... a village birthed from our shared visions, deepest longings, and ancestral memories of what could be, holding a resonance of peace that informs, inspires, and activates all who enter. This village is being conceived and built with peace, sustainability, and respect as its guiding principles. This is the third annual Peace Village at Jackson Wellsprings mineral springs resort just north of Ashland, at 2253 Hwy 99 North. There will be three nights of wonderful and varied music, a community market, skill share faire, healing sanctuary, kid village, community picnic, and a drum circle, plus delicious, nutritious — and reasonably priced — gourmet vegetarian meals and snacks provided by the Wellsprings’ new Cafe Namaste.
The entire event is offered free of charge except for Friday evening’s two “Give Peace a Dance!” fundraisers featuring Cornflower, DJ Medicine Man, Ambe Ray, DJ Solus, and other local musicians and djs, plus a late night fire show by the pool by Liquid Fire Mantra. Saturday from 10am-4pm, there will be a CommUnity Market with fresh local produce and other local foods, local crafts, locally made herbal body care and herbal products, and all manner of treasures du garage, objects d’attique, and fine crafts from villages ‘round the world. Simultaneous with the market on Saturday, there will be a skill share faire with free classes in a variety of useful skills and a Healing Sanctuary with mini-sessions available from a variety of area healers and health professionals. Kid Village provides a place for the younger set to gather and play together. Come out and support our local economy at the community market, where barter is encouraged; learn new skills at the skill share faire; and experience wonderful new healing modalities at the Healing Sanctuary.
On Sunday, there will be a CommUnity Picnic from 12am to 4pm to which everyone in the community is invited. Dominic Allamano and friends will lead some community engagement exercises and games during the picnic. Our healing Sanctuary and Kid Village will also be active during that time. Afterwards, from 4pm-5pm, there will be a community drum circle facilitated by Shakerman. Bring your own drums and other percussion instruments, and some will also be provided.
Peace Village is a family friendly event with something for everyone. The financial model used is that of the gift economy wherein we are encouraged to give generously in relation to the value we receive. With the exception of the two fundraisers on Friday evening, all other parts of Peace Village have free admission, with contributions of cash, time, and energy encouraged since even free events cost money to produce.
The theme for this year’s Peace Village is “Let’s Village Together!”
