Shelters For Freedom Worldwide Formed

On November 17, 2005, Charles Carreon, Jim Cannon, Asha Claire Deliverance and Teresa Van Olphen reunited inside one of the original early-model domes for a brief chat about the old days and the future of dome-making. Jim Cannon reminisced about how he had derived the dome frame from looking at playground geodesics that he often saw as a single, homeless dad in Southern California. Jim created the first canvas-covered geodesic tent by primitive sewing methods that kept the rain out, but lacked style. Asha brought her sewing skills to bear on the project, tightened up the skin, and developed the famous yoni-door, during pregnancy. Teresa, aka Tree, remembers writing up the first financial records for the dome business on a single sheet of paper. Charles remembered when Jim and his wife Jan moved to Colestine Valley back in the early eighties, to which Jim responded that Charles' urgings to “move to Ashland” sunk in deep, and they settled in town for several years with their two children, Jairus and Moonblossom, bringing along Asha and her expanding family. The first incarnation of the business was Unicorn Domes, which has now evolved into Pacific Domes, with a large facility on Hersey Street that ships domes worldwide. Recently, in response to the huge need for instant shelter due to massive earth changes and the attendant human disasters, Asha has joined with Tree, Dr. Jerry Lehrberger, Chris Dekker of EarthDance, and Charles to form the independent non-profit entity Shelters For Freedom Worldwide. SFFW is developing plans to obtain canvas domes from Pacific Domes at rock-bottom prices, and will partner with shippers and non-profits in disaster zones to put shelters on the ground for people in emergency zones.
